EDM/Scanning Feature

Scanning the future

How much paper is it worth scanning as part of an electronic document management project? It's a fraught question, but he answer seems to be 'less than you might think', at least when it comes to legacy records.

Kim Thomas discovers that careful planning and preparation is also needed for forward scanning projects, in order to maintain the structure of a record, avoid duplicating errors, and get the benefits of going digital.

Apira

Independent insight to help you deliver a paperless NHS

At Apira, we have been working to help healthcare providers deliver meaningful use of clinical systems for more than 20 years.

Electronic document management is one of our key areas of focus. We believe these systems are an essential part of any digital roadmap if we are to realise the benefits of a paperless future.

Our work has shown that staffing and pay cost savings can easily amount to over £1.6 million per annum, even in relatively small trusts: in a large trust we have seen in excess of £3 million demonstrated.

At a qualitative level, better access and no lost notes means that cancellations can be avoided and clinicians working lives are less stressed, with no hunting for notes!

We help justify (business cases), specify and buy these systems for our clients. We also help with the technical aspects of the deployment, the change management needed for successful adoption, and the follow-up needed to fully exploit these systems and realise those savings!
